Essential Duties

The Managed Care Contracting Specialist is responsible for researching each specific managed care program’s application process and procedure, completing applications according to the correct process and procedure, communicating with individual managed care entities in follow up activities until a contract is received and the credentialing verification process.  This position is also responsible for maintaining existing managed care contracts, keeping thorough records of all contracting communications with each managed care facility and assisting the Contracting Manager and/or General Counsel with any other assigned duties.  

General Job Responsibilities

  • Research individual managed care payors’ contracting policies and procedures
  • Complete managed care contract applications
  • Collect, maintain, and distribute payor information, changes, and correspondence
  • Assist department head in developing and maintaining operational workflows
  • In collaboration with leadership, participate in contract discussions with managed care organizations, including rate and language negotiations in accordance with established guidelines
  • Serve as the expert on terms of managed care payer contracts for internal and external parties
  • Work with Management to facilitate problem-solving of escalated contractual and/or reimbursement issues through collaboration with managed care organizations and internal stakeholders
  • Review solicitations and prepare responses to proposals, bids, and contract modifications
  • Responsible for updating in-house documents, including internal contract database systems, and tracking information and data flow for the department
  • Perform other duties as assigned

General Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements


  • Strong knowledge of managed care contracting models (Commercial)
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in Managed Care Contracting
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial and Government managed care products, policies and procedures
  • Ability to deal directly and effectively with the company’s top executives
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, without constant supervision
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain poise, composure and diplomacy in negotiations and when under pressure or challenged
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
